VE6LAW is now equipped with an IRLP node so it can be accessed by users worldwide, and we can connect to other repeaters worldwide. IRLP differs from Echolink in that you need access to a repeater that is connected to the network on both ends. There is no client you can install on your phone to access the IRLP network like you can on Echolink.
On the IRLP network there are two different types of connections. You can connect node to node. Think of this as picking up your telephone and calling your friend directly. The second type of connection is a reflector. This is basically a party line – many nodes can connect into a reflector and the audio will be sent to all those that are connected.
VE6LAW is node 1440 on the IRLP network. We have enabled this connection by connecting an embedded IRLP node to the repeater via an SCOM 7330 repeater controller.
A list of all the IRLP nodes in the world can be found at http://status.irlp.net/index.php?PSTART=3
Once you find a node you’d like to connect to enter a * and then the node number on your DTMF keypad. For example if you wanted to link into the VE6QE system in Red Deer you would type in *1353.
When you are finished using the node please remember to disconnect so that someone else may connect in. You can do so by entering 73 on your DTMF keypad.
