Support for LoSeCa foundation’s 5/10K Run

Written by VA6AWS

Today members of the NCAARC assisted with communications support for the LoSeCa foundation’s 5 and 10 K run in St. Albert. Members deployed our communications trailer and setup stations along the route to provide assistance getting messages back to the race organisers. I must say this is the first event I have volunteered at that we’ve relayed back to race officials that there was a moose and her calf on the course! The weather cooperated for the runners, but I think all volunteers would agree with me another 5 degrees warmer would have been great for us.

Thanks Paul (VE6PGA) for organizing the event from the club side. Thanks Ernie (VE6EC) and Dave (VE6SKI) for holding down the net control duties in the trailer. Thanks Gerry (VE6GBH), Jeff (VE6JXN), Jared (VA6JAW), and Steve (VE6CYR) for staffing the stations on the route. The event went off great, thanks to all your help. Looking forward to seeing you all on the next one!

Public Service Opportunities

Jan09
2016
Written by VA6AWS

Part of our mission statement says that we will provide communication services for community events when requested. We have been requested to provide assistance for the two Hypothermic Half Marathons that The Running Room organizes in north Edmonton.

Dates – February 7 and February 21, 2016
Time – On station assignment at 0730, First competitors are off the start line at 0800. This event usually wraps up at about 1300 with an awesome brunch at the Highlands Golf Course.

You might be thinking “But it’s February and it’s freezing out!”. Don’t worry because you can work your station from inside your vehicle and stay warm.

So how do you sign up you’re asking. Contact our Public Service Committee Chair, Patrick – VE6PY at ve6py@ncaarc.ca

If you haven’t worked a public service event before, don’t be shy about volunteering. Patrick will pair you up with someone who has worked events before to show you the ins and outs.

Hope to see you out!
