Just a reminder that the weekend of June 16, 17, and 18 is the annual Red Deer Picnic and Hamfest.  This takes place and the Shady Nook hall west of Red Deer.

Also included in this weekend is and annual SARA (http://www.saralink.ca) general meeting.  Have you ever used NHB? Particpated in a province wide net?  Want to support a club that maintains the province wide linking network?  SARA is looking for people to fill board positions.  If you are interested in helping support/manage the club please contact me – VA6AWS at va6aws@ncaarc.ca and I will forward your interest onto the executive.  If you aren’t able to help with a board position consider signing up for a membership and getting involved in the club.

More detail can be found on the CAARC website at http://www.caarc.ca/40th-annual-red-deer-picnic-and-hamfest

This is a fun weekend and I encourage you all to make it out if you can.

  • The Gorillas are on the streets!!!

Join us on Saturday May 13 to help with communications for the Annual Gorilla run.  We are looking for radio operators to staff stations along the route as runners dressed as Gorillas run/walk 5 or 10KM.  This one is always a blast as some people go all out on the costume.

Contact Patrick at public-service@ncaarc.ca if you can help out!

Also save May 20th as well for the annual transplant trot.  We are also looking for volunteers to staff stations for that run as well.

  • Busy Time for Public Service

Looks like 2017 is shaping up to be a very busy time for the club with respects to public service events.  Today I received a partial list of events for the first part of 2017 from our Public Service Committee Chair Patrick.

We have been requested to assist with the following events so far this year:

    • Hypothermic Half Marathon #1 – Feb 12
    • Hypothermic Half Marathon #2 – Feb 26
    • St. Patrick’s Day run – March 12
    • Gorilla Run – May 13
    • Transplant Trot – May 20
    • Chapman’s Ice Cream Run – July 23

These events are a great way to get out and play radio in the great outdoors, and assist local charities with some fundraising as they receive part of the entry fees. We have a great group of regulars who volunteer for most events, but there is always room for new volunteers as well.  I encourage you to take a look at the above list and let Patrick know if you can help out.  If you haven’t done an event before don’t be shy.  We will help you along the way – usually by pairing you up with someone who has some experience.  If you don’t have gear we can have some we can lend out as well.

If you can help out with any of the above events please contact public-service@ncaarc.ca and let Patrick know which events you can help with.
