  • Gorilla Run

On September 10th members of NCAARC supported the 7th Annual Gorilla Run by providing on course communications.   This was a 5KM run around the UofA North Campus.  Participants are issued a gorilla suit as part of their registration for the run.

Mike (VA6ZM) captured a few photos of the event.

  • Upcoming July Public Service Events

NCAARC has two large public service events coming up in the month of July.

    • Moose is Loose – July 17, 2016 7AM. This is a half marathon through the scenic river valley in Edmonton.  Please contact Patrick VE6PY at public-service@ncaarc.ca if you can help out with the event.  If you have not volunteered at an event don’t be shy.  We will pair you up with someone who has experience.

    • Tour de l’Alberta – July 24, 2017.  This year, the event will be based at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre in Beaumont, and cyclists will choose to ride 50km, 100km, and 160km routes. Operators are needed for rest stops, in patrol/support vehicles (SAG wagons), course sweeping, and base operations. Paul Gervais VE6PGA is coordinating the station assignments. For details, please contact Paul directly via email (pgervais@telus.net) or telephone (res 780-458-6203, cell 780-977-1281 or bus 780-427-4259).

Thank you for helping our club support our community through our hobby.

  • Public Safety Open House

On June 5, 2016 members of the NCAARC participated in the Public Safety Open House. This is a chance for agencies to show and tell what they do when it comes to emergencies in the St. Albert community. The weather was great and the turnout was great. Thanks Patrick for bringing the kitchen sink and feeding us and the bottles of water to keep us all hydrated.

Thank you to the following members who helped share a bit about ham radio with our community:
    Andrew Stott (VA6AWS)
    David Gervais (VE6KD)
    Ernest Clintberg (VE6EC)
    Patrick Piedmont (VE6PY)
    Steve Johnson (VE6SJ)
    Steve Pedersen (VE6STE)

  • Transplant Trot Photos

On May 21 our club provided communications assistance for the 2016 Transplant Trot.  This run takes place in the Edmonton river valley starting in Laurier Park following the trails over to Hawrelak Park and beyond.  There were 120 participants registered in the events, and even though the weather wasn’t the best there were about 100 people that turned out to run.

Once again Mike (VE6XZM) had his camera handy.  (One of these days I need to figure out how he manages to hold down the post of Net Control, and still find time to take some pictures.)
