  • Volunteers Needed!

As you may know a bulk of our funding comes from working a casino ever 2-3 years. Without this funding we would not be able to have the funds to work on the projects that we do and to support ongoing initiatives. If you have some time to volunteer and help out the club, please seem the message below from our casino chair, Paul.

We still need more volunteers for the October 2 and 3, 2023 Casino for the North Central Alberta Amateur Radio Club (NCAARC).
If you can volunteer, please sign up. And volunteer a friend or associate or family member who might like to join the fun.

Casino volunteer duties are easy, meals and snacks are provided, and the funds raised help support NCAARC’s activities. And you can visit with club members as well.

Please signup using the following link volunteersignup.org/8BQF3. If you are unable to use the link to sign up please send an email to board@ncaarc.ca and it will be passed to Paul.

Thank you for supporting your club!

  • Trailer Work Bee

This morning we had a bit of a work bee on the trailer to complete a long outstanding project – cutting and hanging the whiteboards! Dave (VE6SKI), Ivan (VE6IVN), Gerry (VE6GBH), and myself (VA6AWS) arrived at the trailer this morning and set right to work.

Prepping to hang the first piece – this sheet is out 3/4 of an inch from the wall to allow cables to be run down from the radio cabinet above the work surface.
The finished product – there is a whiteboard above the desk, one on each of the back doors, and one above the alternate work space next to the TV.
    View of the TV wall

We had a great day (and I even got a sunburn out there!) working on getting this overdue project completed. Hopefully these will add increased functionality when the trailer is out at events. They are also magnetic so they will be great for hanging up contact lists and maps etc.

We still have some work to complete on the trailer, as well as it needs a very good cleaning before we send it off to the International Children’s Festival for them to use as their command post. If you are interested in helping out with the project, or would like to know some more about the trailer please let me know (va6aws@ncaarc.ca) and we can arrange something.

Thank you again to our work crew today!

  • Club Meetings and Events

We’d love to see some more members and potential members in person now that COVID has calmed down a bit.

We are once again meeting in person every third Saturday of the month at Firehall #3 in St Albert at 9:30 AM. The only exception to this is months where the third weekend of the month is a long weekend. Feel free to reach out if you unsure if a meeting will be happening.

We have a number of projects in the works as well that could use additional hands to make light work. Some of the projects on the docket are; working on the trailer (solar panel install, LED lighting, battery replacement, general setup), fixing VE6JKB by installing a new Pistar setup to support multiple digital modes, installing a new power supply in the repeater room, possible linking of VE6LAW to another repeater. There is lots of work that can be done, but we’re short on hands to do the work. If you are interested in getting involved in a project please let us know!

Also March is our AGM where we will be electing new officers for the next term. If you’re interested in sitting on the board of the club please let us know and your name will be passed along to nominating committee.

And last but not least – it’s a new Calendar year so that means it’s time to renew your membership. Please see the post below this one to download a membership form if you need one.

    Thanks!
